Introduction to Pedagogy 2300-MWŚN-WP
The lecture is designed to:
- introduce students to the fundamental concepts and principal currents within the field of pedagogy;
- present various understandings of the concept of "pedagogy" and selected conceptual categories employed in pedagogical discourse;
- familiarize students with the interdisciplinary character of pedagogy;
- demonstrate the diversity of pedagogical thought and its connections with other scientific and scholarly disciplines (particularly philosophy);
- explore the cultural and social contexts and determinants of education;
highlight the openness of pedagogy to contemporary societal challenges.

Upon completion of the course, the student:
1. has knowledge of fundamental pedagogical concepts;
2. understands the key assumptions of major pedagogical positions;
3. possesses knowledge of the diversity of pedagogical thought and the structure of pedagogy as a discipline;
4. has knowledge of the traditions of pedagogical knowledge and their relevance to contemporary issues;
5. understands the relationships between pedagogy and other fields of knowledge.
Skills
The student is able to:
1. analyze and synthesize the content of the lectures;
2. explain the interrelations between various theoretical contexts within pedagogy;
3. identify the assumptions underlying major pedagogical theories.
Attitudes
The student:
1. recognizes the complexity of educational processes and pedagogical thought;
2. demonstrates an intellectual openness to education as a social and cultural phenomenon;
3. is prepared to engage in discussion on pedagogical issues and challenges.
Assessment criteria
Assessment.
Written exam (90 minutes).
Detailed assessment criteria will be provided during the first lecture.
