MTP - Social Pedagogy - lecture 2300-MTP-PS-W
Social pedagogy, dealing with the relationship human being-environment-education, is to diagnose environmental conditions for both education and development processes, improving the educational intentions of the living environment as well as the organisation of institutions / communities of prevention education and compensation.
Issues to be covered include: selected topics from the history of social pedagogy (the origin, formation and development of the discipline, representatives of social pedagogy) and the main concepts (environment, empowerment, education, prevention, compensation, care, assistance, crisis intervention, social support), the methods of education and social work, the main educational environment: family, school, peers, local environment (structure, function, changes), and selected socio-educational problems of today's world.

After completing the course students will:
In terms of KNOWLEDGE - have known and understood:
1. the origins and key stages in the development of social pedagogy in Poland (K_W01);
2. the fundamental concepts of social pedagogy (e.g. milieu/environment, empowerment, social capital, care, assistance, crisis intervention, support, prevention, compensation) (K_W01);
3. the principal figures in Polish social pedagogy and their contributions to the sub-discipline (K_W01);
4. the subject matter and particularities of social pedagogy as a pedagogical sub-discipline (K_W02);
5. the role and tasks of social pedagogy in the context of contemporary social transformations at both local and global levels (K_W02);
6. the various forms of socio-educational work (care, assistance, crisis intervention, support) along with practical examples of such activities (K_W05);
7. the notion of empowerment, the principles of agency and subsidiarity, and their significance for the development of autonomy and agency (K_W05);
8. selected socio-cultural and environmental transformations (e.g. globalisation, social mobility, cultural diversity, climate change) and their impact on educational processes, family dynamics, and schooling (K_W07).
In terms of SKILLS - be able to:
1. explain key concepts of social pedagogy (e.g. educational environment, upbringing, human resources, assistance, care, support, family, local community, peer group) with reference to selected theoretical approaches (K_U01).
Assessment criteria
Short written exam covering the content of the lectures.
