Early childhood education and care in European countries - what we can learn from our neighbours? 2300-KJO-52/ECH
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the structure of the ECEC sector in selected European countries (Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugale and Ukraine).
In particiular folliwing aspects of the ECEC sector will be considered: curriculum, most popular pedagogical approaches, pre-service and in-service training of ECEC specialists. Also importance of geographical, legislative and social condisions will be discussed.

The student knows and understands:
- what is the geographical, legislative and social context of ECEC in Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugale and Ukraine
- what is the structure of ECEC sector in Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugale and Ukraine (types of setting, framework of setting's operation etc.)
- what are the pre-service training requirements toward ECEC professionals in Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugale and Ukraine
- what are the in-service training opportunities and requirements in Germany, Greece, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugale and Ukraine
The student can:
- analize international reports on ECEC sector
The student improves social skills:
- by taking part in discussions and presenting to the group
- by familiarizing with the international context of the work of the ECEC sector
Assessment criteria
Attendance (two absences are allowed)
Active participation in discussions
Minimum one presentation
Passing the final test
