Module: Psychological preparation for working with children and students with special educational needs 2300-J-PS-PPP
The following subjects are covered in the courses Fundamentals of Clinical Psychology for Children and Adolescents with SEN and Fundamentals of Rehabilitation Psychology for Children and Adolescents with SEN:
1. The autism spectrum, including a detailed discussion of diagnostic criteria, contemporary theories on the causes of the disorder, how people with ASD function, methods of working with students with ASD, and forms of support for students in educational institutions and their families.
2) Behavioural disorders, including a discussion of the criteria for classifying behaviours as difficult or inappropriate, the causes of behavioural disorders and methods of working with students with behavioural disorders.
3. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), including a detailed discussion of diagnostic criteria, contemporary theories on the causes of the disorder, how people with ADHD function, methods of working with students with ADHD, and forms of support for students in educational institutions and their families.
4. Intellectual disability, including a detailed discussion of diagnostic criteria and possible causes of the disorder; characteristics of students with mild, moderate, severe and profound intellectual disabilities; and possibilities for supporting these students in various types of educational and non-educational institutions.

The graduate knows and understands:
K_W09: the psychological and rehabilitative conditions, development, education, upbringing and support of students with special educational needs and their families.
K_W12: the objectives, content, methods and forms of organising teaching and education for students with special educational needs.
K_W14: the conditions and methodology of teaching students in diverse groups, and how to cooperate with specialists, parents, and the social environment.
Graduates are able to:
K_U04: Use psychosocial, medical, rehabilitation, philosophical, legal and cultural theories to analyse and plan the education and upbringing of people with diverse educational needs.
K_U05: Design classes; activate, advise and support individuals with special educational needs (including those with disabilities) at various life stages; and assess the suitability of methods, materials and resources for educational, care and teaching tasks.
K_U09: analyse one's own pedagogical activities (teaching, education and care) and identify areas requiring modification; manage learning processes and effectively build student motivation; recognise and solve educational problems in cooperation with parents and supporting institutions, including specialists.

Course credits: ‘Fundamentals of Clinical Psychology for Children and Adolescents with SEN’ and ‘Fundamentals of Rehabilitation Psychology for Children and Adolescents with SEN’: partial tests.
Two absences are permitted during the semester.
