The lectures focus on the following issues:
I. The concept, goals, tasks and functions of cultural education. The models of cultural education. Promotion of culture. Participation in culture and its determinants. New cultural practices and their significance for pedagogy. Cultural education as education for artistic culture, education for symbolic culture and as humanistic education. Cultural education and education of cultures: from "culturalisation" to conscious and critical participation in culture.
II. Basic issues in the history of aesthetics and the main concepts of aesthetics: art, beauty, form, creativity, reproduction, aesthetic experience and their importance for pedagogy. The problem of defining art. Theories of the work of art. The problem of the interpretation of work of art. Analysis of form, symbol and sign. The creator and the recipient of art.
III. The theory of aesthetic education - basic concepts, assumptions, sources, inspirations. Interdisciplinarity and multi-disciplinary nature of the theory of aesthetic education. Educational possibilities of art throughout history. Classics of aesthetic education: Br. Schiller, J. Dewey, H. Read. Polish precursors: J. Mortkowiczowa, S. Szuman, B. Suchodolski. Constitution of the theory: I. Wonar.
IV. Pedagogy in the face of contemporary art. Changes in the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Contemporary forms and trends in art. Selected issues of contemporary aesthetics. Recipient in the face of contemporary art. The social place of art and its role within contemporary culture. Educational aspects of contemporary art.
V. Popular culture / mass culture as an educational space. Philosophy of mass art. Resistance or acceptance of mass art. Aesthetic of popular culture. Cyberculture and the aesthetics of new media.
VI. Contemporary controversies around cultural education from the point of view of e.g. critical pedagogy (e.g. cultural reproduction) or postmodern pedagogy (e.g. the problem of the canon).

In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:
EK_W01: relations between pedagogy, culture and art
EK_W02: the concept, goals, forms and tasks of cultural education as well as conditions and contemporary forms of participation in culture and dissemination of culture.
EK_W03: basic positions and main concepts in the field of aesthetics and their importance for pedagogy
EK_W04: the concept and theory of aesthetic education as well as the educational potential of art (old and contemporary) and ways of incorporating it into pedagogical practice
EK_W05: place of art in education and contemporary culture
EK_W06: educational contexts of pop culture and cyberculture
EK_W07: cultural determinants of educational processes
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
EK_U01: use the knowledge of cultural education, aesthetics and the theory of aesthetic education in order to analyze educational problems
EK_U02: interpret pedagogical problems in the context of changes in contemporary culture and try to solve them.
EK_U03: critically refer to the forms of contemporary culture as an educational environment
EK_U04: interpret works of old and modern art and include them in educational activities.
EK_U05: use a variety of cultural texts (including pop culture and cyberculture) in educational activities
EK_U06: encourage others to active and diversified participation in culture
In terms of social competences, the student is ready to:
EK_K01: recognize the importance of culture and art in educational activities
EK_K02: take responsibility for the preservation of cultural heritage and co-creation of contemporary culture
EK_K03: support active participation in culture
EK_K04: build a relationship based on mutual trust, express your own views and create a good atmosphere for communication
EK_K05: continue improvement of their knowledge
