The Culture of Academic Writing 2300-EAL-MM-KPT
The course is devoted to developing the skills of creating a text, including a simple scientific text, with particular emphasis on issues related to language culture. The first part of the course will be devoted to developing the skills of critical reading and analysis of scientific texts, which constitute the basis for attempts to write their own academic texts. During the course, the student will become familiar with the basic stages of the research process that are important in the process of creating a scientific publication, and will also learn the specificity of scientific discourse, the rules of writing a scientific text and presenting the results of their own academic work.

In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:
- what is the specificity of the research procedure and knows the basic stages of the research process. (K1_W03)
- the structure of a scientific statement and recognizes its elements. (K1_W01)
- principles of constructing a scientific text, appropriate language and writing technique that meet the requirements of a scientific paper (K1_W05)
- principles of developing and presenting scientific research results, selected standards of editing a scientific text. (K1_W05)
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
- design and conduct a simple pedagogical study. (K1_U06)
- construct short written scientific statements in accordance with the most important principles of academic work. (K1_U05)
- is able to use appropriate sources when writing an academic text. (K1_U02)
- assess the scientific value and credibility of information found on the Internet. (K1_U02)
- use other people's scientific works in compliance with ethical principles: is able to correctly - quote (understands the function of a quote) and paraphrase. (K1_U06)
- present the results of their research in an accessible way. (K1_U06)
In terms of social competences, the student is ready to:
- critically evaluate their own methodological knowledge and the need to develop it in connection with constant changes in pedagogy and social research. (K1_K01)
- adopting the attitude of a reflective pedagogue and animator focused on critically examining the effects of their professional activities. (K1_K02)
- accepting ethical responsibility for the research activities carried out. (K1_K05)
- expressing their own opinion while respecting other views and taking care of the culture of the language. (K1_K05)
Assessment criteria
- active attendance at classes (1 absence allowed)
- preparation and presentation of a study that meets the conditions of scientific work
