Methodology module 2300-EAL-MM
The aim of the module is to familiarize students with basic knowledge of research methodology in pedagogy, with particular emphasis on research in the area of socio-cultural animation. During the module classes, the following issues will be discussed: basic and applied research; basic paradigms in social sciences; principles of preparing a review of scientific literature and formulating research questions and hypotheses; methods of selecting objects for research; research schemes; basic methods of quantitative research; basic methods of qualitative research; basic models of analysis of collected data; principles of preparing presentations and scientific texts. Students will also be introduced to the scientific world of collecting, analyzing and writing scientific texts, they will become familiar with the principles of creating scientific texts, the scientific style of formulating a written statement. They will test the acquired knowledge in practice by preparing an essay on a selected topic. As part of the module classes, students work in teams of several people preparing a research project using methods appropriate for the area of animation research. Then they implement the project, develop the results and subject it to critical analysis. The research project is a form of a module exam.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:
1. the main pedagogical concepts, including those related to alternative education and socio-cultural animation, and their philosophical foundations and the values on which they are based. (K1_W01)
2. the principles of conducting pedagogical research - from formulating research questions to analyzing the results - with particular emphasis on the methods used in socio-cultural animation. (K1_W03)
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
1. design and conduct a simple pedagogical study (e.g. diagnosis, evaluation or action research) and present its results in an accessible way using digital tools. (K1_U06)
In terms of social competences, the student:
1. critically evaluate their own methodological knowledge and the need to develop it in connection with constant changes in pedagogy and social research. (K1_K01)
2. conduct research and pedagogical activities in accordance with the principles of ethics, express their own opinion while respecting other views and responsibly taking on the role of a researcher and animator. (K1_K05)
Assessment criteria
The student receives a grade for each component within the module (for internal settlement). The form of passing individual components is determined by the instructors.
The exam is taken by a student who has passed all subjects within the module.
The final grade for the module exam is the average of the grades from the components and the research project.
As part of the exam, students present the results of the research project in a specific form.
