The seminar covers discussions with students on key legal issues within the scope of broadly defined environmental protection regulations. The material is organized into the following thematic blocks:
1. Basic legal terminology in environmental law; environmental law in the context of legal branches; law vs. environmental policy; the evolution of environmental law
2. Sources and principles of environmental law
3. Administrative bodies related to environmental (nature) protection in Poland – structure, organization, competences
4. Legal regulation of water protection
5. Legal regulation of air protection and protection from noise and light pollution
6. Administrative procedure in environmental matters – on the example of selected proceedings
7. Public participation in environmental protection and access to environmental information
8. Environmental decisions
9. Nature protection law – systemic aspects
10. Forms of nature protection and associated prohibitions
11. Greenery. Protection of trees and shrubs
12. Forestry law, including the protection of forest land
13. Hunting law
14. Legal regulation of waste management
15. Legal aspects of climate change adaptation

After completing the course, the student:
- can correctly interpret regulations in the field of broadly understood environmental protection
- knows the specific features and key legal institutions of environmental protection
- knows the key case law of courts and tribunals in the field of environmental protection
- knows the principles of environmental law
- knows the authorities and entities responsible for environmental protection, their organization, and competences
- can take actions aimed at nature protection and participate in forms of social participation
- knows how to conduct key administrative proceedings in environmental protection and how to establish forms of nature protection
- understands legal challenges related to climate change
- understands the tensions between environmental protection requirements and investment processes
- is ready to further deepen their knowledge in environmental law
Assessment criteria
Written test. Optionally, students may prepare a draft scientific article or case commentary under the supervision of the course instructor for possible publication.
