Prerequisites (description)

International law of new technologies is a seminar devoted to the directions of development of international legal regulations relating to new techniques and technologies as well as interactions between law, modern techniques and technologies and contemporary social and civilizational phenomena. Its purpose is to present international legal regulations in the field of e.g. telecommunications law, internet, space and satellite techniques, aviation techniques (drones), artificial intelligence. The assumption of the seminar is to indicate the mechanisms of creating international law of new technologies in its historical and social context; explanation of the origin and purpose of specific legal solutions; acquiring the ability to critically refer to the presented legal solutions, substantive assessment of positions and opinions presented on the international arena in the discussed area.

Learning outcomes

Students know and understand
- legal regulations in the field of selected fields (provided for in the program of the seminar) of international law of new technologies;
- the specificity of international law as a separate legal system;
- jurisprudence of international courts and mechanisms of binding and applying international law in the internal legal order;
- causes and ways of creating international law of new technologies;
- mechanisms of functioning of the international law of new technologies in international relations;
- dependencies that exist between particular branches of international law;
- terminology relevant to international law;
- the specificity of the functioning of contemporary international law in relations between its subjects;
- challenges posed to the international law of new technologies by contemporary international relations and the development of technology;
- requirements of compliance of Polish law with international law and EU law.
