The seminar covers all branches of international law.
Sources of public international law - general issues.
Treaty law
International custom - definition, practice and the essence of opinio iuris. Common and regional customs.
Law-making resolutions of international organizations, their types and legal force.
Unilateral acts of states as a source of public international law. Types of unilateral acts.
International law and domestic law. Monism and dualism. Application of international law in national legal orders.
Subjects of public international law - the state, an international organization, the Holy See - Vatican City State, the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta, non-sovereign territorial organizations, the so-called defective subjects of public international law, etc.
Natural person and legal entity as a subject of international law - analysis of rights and obligations.
State population - citizenship, foreigners, international personal movement. Extradition and asylum. Human rights, also in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
International responsibility of states for violation of the norms of public international law (responsibility) and for harmful consequences of permitted activities (liability). Responsibility of natural persons for violation of the norms of public international law.
State territory - acquisition, loss, sovereignty, borders. Status of international rivers and canals and polar regions.
International law of the sea
International aviation and space law
Diplomatic and consular law.
Peaceful settlement of international disputes.
Anti-war law, especially the problem of the definition of aggression and rules concerning collective security. Mechanism from Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
International humanitarian law of armed conflicts.
The concept of a veteran and a prisoner of war. Analysis of I, II, III and IV Geneva Conventions of 1949. The role of the International Committee of Red Cross.

Learning outcomes
After completing the seminar, students will have comprehensive knowledge of public international law, including international air law and international space law. In particular, Students will be able to
- describe the mechanisms of law formation in its historical and social context;
- use proper terminology, learn a legal language;
- explain the genesis and purpose of specific legal solutions;
- identify a legal problem and suggest a solution to it;
- understand and critically refer to the presented legal solutions;
Students will be ready to choose the thesis' subject and be able to complete it.
