Law on Bills of Exchange and Cheques 2200-1CWPC38
The course covers Polish law regulations on the bills of exchange and functions of the bills of exchange in business transactions. Two types of bills of exchange: self and drawn bills of exchange will be characterised, with a special emphasis put on the form and contents of a bill of exchange. The mechanism of formation of the obligation by issuing a bill of exchange will also be adreesed during the course. The students will learn about transfers of the bills of exchange, realsisation of the bills of exchange and liability of persons signed on the bill of exchange. Morover, the cours will cover the law on checks, including the forms and contents of checks, different kinds of check, transfer and realization of checks and differences between bills of exchange and checks.

1. The notion and purpose of the bill of exchange, various kinds of bills of exchange.
2. The elements of self and drawn bills of exchange.
3. Clauses in bill of exchange.
4. Transfer of bills of exchange, form and consequences of endorsement.
5. Secured bills of exchange, legal characteristic of the guarantor liability, difference between securing bills of exchange and guarantee regulated in Polish Civil Code.
6. Acceptance of the bill of exchange.
7. Payment of the bill of exchange.
8. Realization of the bill of exchange, notification, protest.
9. Characteristic of the liability of persons signed on the bill of exchange.
10. Court proceedings concerning bills of exchange.
11. The form and essence of a check, difference between a check and a bill of exchange.
12. Different kinds of checks, participants of legal relationship created by issuing a check.
13. Transfer of check, guarantee of check.
14. Presentation and payment for a check and liability in case of lack of payment.
15. Consequences of the lack of payment for the check. Lost checks.
