The subject-matter of the course is the institutional and substantive law of European Union. Thus, the substantial scope of the course includes structure and mechanisms of functioning of European Union legal system:
I. The introduction to the law of the European Union;
II. The development of the European Union;
III. Non-discrimination and citizenship of the European Union;
IV. Instruments and competence of the European Union
V. Institutions of the European Union;
VI. Legal acts of the European Union;
VII. Law making in the European Union;
VIII. The nature and effect of European Union law;
IX. The relationship between European Union law and national law;
X. The application of European Union law;
XI. Human rights in the European Union;
XII. The area of freedom, security and justice
XIII. The Common Foreign and Security Policy;
XIV. The definition of the internal market;
XV. Free movement of goods I: duties, charges and taxes;
XVI. Free movement of goods II: quantitative restrictions;
XVII. Free movement of workers;
XVIII. Freedom of establishment;
XIX. Free movement of services;
XX. Free movement of capital;
XXI. Competition law of the European Union I;
XXII. Competition law of the European Union II.
The course is based on the analysis of legal instruments, recent literature and case-law of the Court of Justice of European Union.
Type of course
Learning outcomes
After completion of the class a student shall:
– know the system of European Union law;
– be able to analyse legal instruments of the European Union and case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union;
– recognize decision-making procedures of the primary and secondary European Union law;
– be able to explain mechanisms of functioning of the European Union internal market.
Assessment criteria
Attendance list; preparation for the classes, active participation during the classes, Colloquium. Minimum conditions include 4 colloquia (2 for each semester) and the lack of absence exceeding 50% of classes. Detailed conditions are point out by academic teachers during classes
