Topic 2. Elements of SME demography.
2.1. Basic definitions of SME demography: registered enterprises, active enterprises; birth rate, death rate, survival rate;
2.2. Factors shaping the birth rate of enterprises;
2.3. Factors shaping the death rate of enterprises;
2.4. Directions of influence on the size of the SME population - first approach.
Topic 3. The life cycle of an enterprise and possibilities of influencing it.
3.1. Concepts of the enterprise life cycle in management science and conclusions from SME demography;
3.2. Phases of the life cycle of a small enterprise and characteristic development needs for individual phases;
3.3. The life cycle of an innovative enterprise and dilemmas related to financing development;
3.4. Assessment of the possibilities and purposefulness of influencing the life cycle of SMEs by public authorities.
Topic 4. Policy supporting the development of SMEs.
4.1. Political and economic foundations of the application of the policy supporting SMEs - the neutral nature of the policy supporting SMEs in the modern world;
4.2. Institutional and legal solutions used in the field of supporting entrepreneurship in various countries;
4.3. Policy supporting SMEs in Poland - government programs supporting the development of SMEs 1998-2002, 2003-2006 and reference to supporting SMEs in the financial perspective of the European Union;

Learning outcomes
The classes will serve to achieve the following learning outcomes of specific study programs:
K_W07 the student knows and understands the main definitions of the existence of the European market and the presence of EU member states and economies on it;
K_W09 the student knows and understands in practice the principles of establishing and developing business activities on the domestic and EU markets; understands the functioning of the public and private sectors and their mutual relations, as well as the main principles of cooperation for the implementation of the socio-economic goals of the EU and the member states;
K_U01 the student is able to use for practical purposes knowledge of economic and social phenomena in Europe and within European countries taking place in the economy with the participation of SMEs;
K_U04 the student is able to use the acquired knowledge to forecast economic and economic processes and phenomena and their practical effects using standard methods and tools;
K_U06 the student is able to manage the workplace using the skills acquired during education during professional internships;
K_U07 the student is able to use appropriately selected economic methods, techniques and tools to formulate and solve research problems using the knowledge acquired during mastering a given subject;
K_U09 the student is able to prepare an individual and team written paper in Polish on the economic issues of the functioning of SMEs on the domestic market and the EU internal market using basic concepts and theoretical approaches for the analysis and solution of problems;
K_U10 the student is able to use knowledge to prepare individual or team presentations in Polish on the issues of the functioning of SMEs on the domestic market and the EU internal market;
K_K01 the student is able to independently and critically supplement knowledge and enrich professional experience throughout life;
K_K02 the student is aware of cooperation in a group with a diverse structure and tasks, demanding ethical principles from themselves and others;
K_K03 the student is able to initiate and define priorities serving the implementation of a task for the public interest;
S_W02 the student knows and understands the legal status of an administrative employee in the EU and Member States and the task related to their job position;
S_U01 the student is able to use theoretical knowledge about the mechanisms of functioning of SMEs in the EU to solve problems in the workplace;
S_K01 the student is ready to implement the ethical principles of the employee's work in their work environment.
After completing the subject of study:
- know and understand the basic criteria and concepts of establishing an SME;
- know the basic procedures of economic research methodology;
- know the most important methods and techniques that can be used in the analysis of the existence of SMEs;
- plan the research process correctly;
- skillfully select research methods and techniques;
- build research tools correctly.
Assessment criteria
- attendance at classes and preparation for classes;
- participation in discussions and workshop exercises during classes;
- preparation of tasks and individual and team presentations;
- passing with a grade.
More than 2 absences require passing during the teacher's office hours within two weeks of the absence. In the event of absence from more than 5 classes, the student is not graded in the subject. Failure to pass the third or fourth absence also results in not grading.
