Study of state and politics 2105-PP-L-D1NOPP
The course is carried out in the form of lectures and exercises. The subject and functions of political science will be analyzed, as will the development of political thought and political science from a historical perspective, the status of political science in the modern world, with particular emphasis on Poland, its literature and research methods. The classes will be devoted to the basic issues of political science. The concept and essence of the state, concepts of the genesis of the state in selected ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary doctrines as well as the types and forms of states will be discussed. The notions of a political regime, forms of government, and territorial system of the state will be defined. The concepts of the state, society, nation and individual will be analyzed, as well as their relations in historical development; national and ethnic minorities; the nation as a political community and the nation as a cultural community. The nation state and its transformations. Changes in the history of the state: reform, revolution, transformation, integration, globalization. Coup d'état. Ways of making politics. Mutual relations between the state, politics and war. Relationship between politics and ethics. The concept and concepts of political power and its legitimation. Democratic, authoritarian and totalitarian regimes will be characterized and compared. Ways of defining the policy and its various concepts will be discussed. The limits of the political. The concept of the political system and its elements - the main views. Basic policy categories. Policy actors. Political activities. Political relations. Political institutions. Political decisions. Political values and norms. Political culture, its components and types. Political leadership.

Political processes relating to the internal and external spheres of states will be shown. The student knows and understands:
- the nature of social sciences and their place in the system of sciences, in particular relations between the sub-disciplines that make up the studies
European, i.e. administration, law, economy, political science and
science of public policy, oriented towards practical application in the sphere of administrative and official activity and entrepreneurship. (K_W01)
- the evolution of the state, its structure and role in contemporary processes

The student is able to:
-observe, interpret, analyze and describe processes and social phenomena , including relationships between phenomena and processes of the political and administrative and socio-economic in Europe and within European countries . (K_U01)
- use normative systems of a universal nature and selected norms and rules applicable to selected institutions and structures in for the proper management and direction of the institution and its affairs, and solving tasks within the scope of their competence. (K_U05)
Assessment criteria
exam:
written test (open and closed questions, multiple choice), duration 60 min.
exercises:
- continuous assessment (current preparation for classes and activity) - preparation of a presentation or team project, written assignments on Kampus platform,
passing the exercises is a necessary condition for taking the exam
