Social Movements in Europe 2105-M-D2RUSP
During the course of the course, theoretical concepts concerning social movements are analyzed and, on selected historical and present examples, their dynamics and role in the process of social changes.
The subject includes, among others the following topics:
- Theories of social movements;
- National and national liberation movements. Nationalism in Europe.
- Workers '/ workers' movement. Unions. Social revolts and revolutions;
- Between a social movement and a political party. Social Democracy. Nazism.
- "New social movements". Feminism. LGBT + social movements. Pacifism / anti-war movement;
- The alterglobalist movement.

KNOWLEDGE
K_W02 - The student knows and understands the role of human being in social life and sees his/her ability to participate or create specific forms of social movement.
K_W03 - The student has knowledge of social movements as a form of participation in social life at its various levels, distinguishing it from other manifestations of collective social activity.
K_W04 - The student has knowledge of the functioning of exemplary social movements, their historical, economic, social and cultural conditions.
K_W06 - The student knows and understands the principles of functioning of social movements in the political system and discusses exemplary social movements in a comparative approach.
SKILLS
K_U01 - The student is able to critically observe and interpret social phenomena in the field of dynamics of social movement processes.
K_U02 - The student can independently analyze and explain the role of social movements in the modern world and their impact on social structures.
COMPETENCES
K_K01 - The student is ready to independently, critically supplement and verify information about a given social movement using scientific and journalistic sources.
Assessment criteria
The basic condition for obtaining a pass is active participation in classes (active participation in more than half of the subject-related classes allows for obtaining a satisfactory grade, activity in each subsequent class raises the grade by half a grade).
