Within the course will be discussed the following items:
1. The threats and challenges to Near and Middle East security
2. The mechanism of cooperation within the framework of the Arab League
3. Problems of security in the Gulf region
4. Peacekeeping missions and operations as a conflict resolution measures
5. Security in the politics of the main states of the region - Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt
6. Middle East security and the policy of non-regional powers

Term 2023Z:

Within the course the following topic will be discussed:
1. Regionalisation of security in the Middle East: from Cold War dynamics to "Arab NATO"?
2. Typology of security threats (inter-state conflicts, separatists and transnational movements, demographic changes, climate threats)
3. Roles of regional and subregional organisations: the League of Arab States, the Gulf Cooperation Council, new cooperative formats
4. Roles of external actors: great powers and international organisations
5. Security in the politics of the main states of the region - Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt

Prerequisites (description)

The aim of the course is to explain the conditions and processes affecting the shape of regional international system in the Middle East in the context of international peace and security.
