Class content :
Proper written communication in an international environment, adapted to the recipient's communication culture and the sender's intended goals, is a key tool in diplomacy and business. Quickly and skillfully drafting diplomatic correspondence is an essential competency in diplomacy at all levels—ministries, embassies, international cooperation offices in state and city administrative units, and local governments. The course aims not only to familiarize students with the theory and history of diplomatic communication but also to develop basic habits for working with documents, including creating, reading, and interpreting them. Exercises led by a professional diplomat, based on examples of notes, claris, and memos, will prepare participants for work in roles where 80% of working time is spent handling such documents.

Prerequisites (description)
Learning outcomes
After the course, the student knows the basic rules of the Communication in Diplomacy, especially the diplomatic and formal correspondance; is able to prepare a diplomatic or formal letter.
Assessment criteria
1. Teaching methods
a. Lecture with a conservatory approach using presentations and sample materials from diplomatic correspondence - learning outcomes achieved: K_W03, K_W07
b. Didactic discussion - learning outcomes achieved: K_W07, K_U02
c. Exercises in writing notes, memos, and claris - learning outcomes: K_U01, K_U04
2. Allowed number of absences - 2, can be excused with a medical certificate
3. Final exam
Written assessment for a grade (80%) in the form of a test - ten closed questions and two open ones (preparing a note and a claris), minimum 7 points out of 12 required
4. Active participation in classes, including exercises in 5-person groups (20%)

1-6, grade 2.0 (fail)
7, grade 3.0 (sufficient)
8, grade 3.5 (sufficient plus)
9, grade 4.0 (good)
10, grade 4.5 (good plus)
11, grade 5 (very good)
