Prerequisites (description)

According to the Morgan Stanley Capital International (2020) index, 24 developing countries now qualify as emerging markets - Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru , Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. These countries share commonalities such as high growth prospects, a dynamic and volatile stock market, a high level of risk and the potential for high return on investment. There are also differences between them, resulting from political systems, market size, cultural, civilization and geographical conditions on the local and regional scale, as well as the level of development and advancement in the transition to an innovative economy. Within the specialization of regional and global studies, the aim of the course is to familiarize students with the theoretical foundations of distinguishing and classifying emerging markets, as well as with various aspects of their functioning and running a business in them. The first part presents theoretical assumptions related to the features that distinguish emerging markets, their main parameters and development models, as well as the policies of Poland and the European Union in emerging markets.
