Full course description 1. Introduction to the subject matter.
2. Sources of the law of the sea – UN convention on the law of the sea (1982)
3. Legal regime of maritime zones and their boundary delimitation –internal waters, territorial sea; contiguous zone, economic zone, fishery zone, continental shelf; high sea, the sea-bed and ocean floor; international straits and channels; archipelagic states; law regime of islands; enclosed and semi-enclosed seas.
4. International organisations upon the law of the sea system.
5. Maritime scientific research.
6. Protection of the maritime environment.
7. Security and safety at seas.
8. Settlement of disputes: principles, procedures, institutions.
9. Maritime cooperation and regional disputes. Examples.
10. Legal status of the Baltic Sea.
11. Violence at seas. Piracy and terrorism. Legal aspects.
12. The law of the sea and regional regulations – EU law and maritime policy.
13. The law of the sea and the Polish maritime public law.

Learning outcomes Student has knowledge about the rules and intruments of international maritime cooperation, including settlement of disputes at the seas.
Assessment criteria
Assessment methods and criteria attendance control, preparation (presentations), the outcome of the final test.
