The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues of international environmental protection, particularly the topic of climate change.
The course will discuss the most important causes of this phenomenon, its geographical, physical, economic, social, and political impacts, and their main manifestations observed at both the global and local levels. Furthermore, the course will discuss the evolution of the international climate regime from its inception to the contemporary challenges related to the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Particular emphasis will be placed on its effectiveness and the main challenges.
The course will also examine the climate policies of Poland, the European Union, the United States, China, and selected countries of the Global South, highlighting their specific characteristics, determinants, and key trends.
Topics covered also include environmental social movements, non-governmental organizations, and international enterprises.
The course will culminate in an analysis of contemporary trends in international environmental protection, particularly the growing role of climate paradiplomacy.

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands basic concepts related to environmental protection, the concept of climate change, its causes, and its effects from a global perspective.
The student can identify the most important actors in the international environment. They can identify the largest emitters of greenhouse gases, those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and non-state stakeholders such as social movements, non-governmental organizations, corporations, and sub-state entities. They also know the main institutions, both at the international and national levels, responsible for environmental policy.
The student understands the main socio-economic challenges related to the implementation of environmental policy. They recognize the main problems related to the effectiveness of the international climate regime and cooperation between states in this area.
Thanks to the theoretical knowledge acquired, the student recognizes and analyzes the main challenges related to the climate crisis at the global, regional, and local levels, and is able to interpret the most important implications of these phenomena.
The student is able to formulate their own conclusions regarding potential environmental threats and propose potential solutions.
The student is familiar with various social movements in the environmental field, knows what social engagement is, and can identify the basic forms of social engagement.
