1. Introduction to the course.
2-3. Definition and characteristic of Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA): definition of foreign policy; development of FPA; levels of FPA; goals, resources, instruments, process and outcomes of foreign policy.
4. Theories of International Relations (IR) and its application to FPA: FPA from the perspective of realism, liberalism, constructivism and other IR theoretical approaches/schools.
5. Influence of decision-makers and bureaucracy on shaping foreign policy: emotions, cognition, perceptions; various management styles and group thinking; different organisational and bureaucracy models.
6. Impact of institutions and social actors on foreign policy: significance of state power and political regime/system; influence of mass-media, lobby groups, experts and public opinion.
7. Relations between culture and foreign policy: norms and national identities; national roles; organisational and strategic cultures; discourse and FPA.
8-9. Practical application of FPA (case studies): small projects presented by students (in groups); every group presents its project (related to chosen topic) defining a research problem, formulating a hypothesis, research questions and purpose of study as well as indicating a useful method of FPA.
10. Exam (test).

Student knows and understands:
K_W01: different approaches, levels and methods of Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) as the part of IR science;
K_W03: various approaches, levels and methods of FPA: terminology and methods and techniques for studying international relations;
K_W04: actors, norms, institutions and other phenomena and processes, including influence of culture and identity, shaping foreign policy decison-making processes.
Student is able to:
K_U01: identify and apply proper FPA methods and techniques to case study analysis concerning FPA.
Student is ready to:
K_K01: prepare critical analysis of foreign policy decision-making processes, individually or through teamwork.
Assessment criteria
1.Attendance and activity during the entire course (20%).
2. Preparation of case study analysis on chosen topic related to FPA (40%).
3. Exam - test (40%).
