List of issues:
1. introduction to public speaking and public debate
Introduction to public speaking. Principles of public speaking. Types of speakers and styles in public speaking. Public communication, public discourse, public debate. Criteria for evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of public speaking and public debate.
2. Language as a tool of persuasion
The power of words. Connotations and denotations. Principles of formulating persuasive messages.
3. Rhetoric in public speaking and public debate.
The essence of rhetoric and eristic. Selected rhetorical means in public debate. Persuasion versus manipulation. Ways to defend against manipulation and dishonest eristic means.
4. Storytelling in public speaking and public debate.
The role of storytelling in the perception of reality, including public affairs. Defining situations through narratives. Storytelling and principles of effective narration. Ethical use of storytelling principles in public speaking and public debate.
5. Preparation for debate 1 on a selected labor market problem
Preparation for public speaking. Stress management. Developing argumentation and debating strategies.
6. Oxford debate 1 on the selected labor market problem.
Two teams of 3-4 students (Proposal and Opposition) participate in the debate. These teams - in accordance with strict rules and based on solid preparation - argue for or against the thesis.

The plan is a framework and may be slightly modified during the semester. Certain topics may be merged, others may take up more than one class. The reading list may also be adjusted during the semester. Students will be informed of any changes well in advance.

Knowledge:
Students know and understand
= to an in-depth degree the mechanisms of debating solutions to labor market issues (K_W04)
- Social and ethical conditions of public debate with particular attention to the impact of technological change and its consequences (K_W06)
Skills:
Students are able to:
- cooperate in task teams and direct the work of the team, using knowledge of social communication (K_U06);
- speak effectively in public, participate in debate in various roles, including debating topics in the labor market area, through preparation and participation in an Oxford debate in class (K_U07);
Social competencies:
- The student is ready to take into account in his/her professional work the principle of priority of scientific knowledge in problem solving, to critically evaluate the knowledge he/she possesses and the content he/she receives concerning the labor market, and to consciously and responsibly use expert knowledge, among other things, thanks to methodical preparation for the Oxford debate carried out in class (K_K01)
- The student is ready to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner, thanks to the analysis of a given labor market problem in the context of preparing an argumentation for an Oxford debate carried out in the course of classes (K_K02)
- The student is ready to perform his/her future professional role responsibly and ethically, especially thanks to the formation of the skills of fair and ethical argumentation in class and effective (K_K03).
Assessment criteria
- attendance (2 absences are allowed without making up, in case of 3 absences - the excess absence must be made up on duty within two weeks; in case of more than 3 absences - no credit for the course);
- preparation for classes (knowledge of literature for current classes, preparation for debates);
- Activity and participation in workshop exercises;
- Preparation of strategies for participation in the Oxford debate ;
- Preparation and participation (as a member of the Proposal or Opposition team) in Oxford debates;
CONDITIONS FOR PASSING AN OXFORD DEBATE:
Member of the Opposition or Proposal team: diligent preparation for the debate and presentation of the arguments of the represented side.
Speaker: preparation for and conduct of the debate.
