1.The concepts of national and international (both regional and global dimensions) social policies. Prospects for a supranational social policy.
2. Influence of globalization process on social policy and welfare states.
3. International social problems in the light of selected scientific theories and intellectual visions.
4. The latest developments in European social policies. Diversity and convergence of national models of the welfare state.
5. The roots and development of European Union social policy. Social provisions and explicit social policy competences in the EU Treaties.
6. The main actors, instruments and methods of EU social policy: political coordination (including the OMC), legislation (EU social law), financial measures (EU funds, including the European Social Fund).
7. EU social policy key areas: the free movement of workers, labour market policy, social protection, occupational health and safety, industrial relations, gender equality and equal treatment, combating poverty and social exclusion, old age security systems etc.
8. The influence of the EU on the member states’ national social policies. Its impact on social development and modernization in Poland.
9. The EU and other players in international social policy: the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations, the Council of Europe, NGOs.
10. Europe and the European Union vis a vis global social challenges, e.g. demographic issues, international migrations, world poverty, environmental and climate threats. Competitive advantages and disadvantages of the European Social Model.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student knows:
- types, manifestations, structures and dynamics of social problems on a European scale, as well as the relationships between them and their structural determinants in the context of social policy (K_W02);
- the system of social policy institutions at the European Union level, including the legal and administrative basis and scope of activities of EU social policy entities and the principles of financing and management of social policy institutions (K_W09).
After completing the course, the student is able to:
- interpret European social problems, social issues and social risks and is able to indicate their economic and socio-demographic conditions in the context of social policy (K_U01);
- critically analyze strategies, social programs and EU activities in various areas of social policy, including explaining the relationship of various interests and values with specific solutions (K_U02).
