The seminar is aimed at acquisition of the student's ability to make a basic analysis of a selected social policy issue. In the course of the seminar, the student acquires the ability to select the literature of the subject, including selecting from it the content to be used in the work. He or she conducts an analysis of the basic definitions, socio-economic effects of the issue and ways to solve it. As a result of participation in the seminar and preparation of the thesis, students acquire the ability to present basic statistical data, results of quantitative research or qualitative research. As part of the preparation of the thesis, they conduct an independent analysis of a given social policy issue using one of the research methods. Students design and carry out a simple social research, developing skills in collecting and analyzing data. Thus they deepen their knowledge in the area of intellectual property protection.

Learning outcomes
- The student knows and understands the terminology of the science of social policy and has knowledge of the place of the science of social policy in the system of sciences, as well as knows and understands the basic methods and techniques of conducting research in the field of social policy through the implementation of the study for the thesis (K_W01).
- The student knows and understands the basic concepts and principles in the field of industrial property and copyright protection, which he or she applies when preparing the diploma thesis (K_W10)
- The student has the knowledge to independently analyze a selected issue of social policy on the basis of critical analysis of the literature on the subject, statistical data and other information.
- The student knows the main sources of obtaining data and information on a given issue.
- The student knows the basic methods and techniques of social research.
- The student, thanks to the analysis of a specific research problem in his/her thesis, acquires the ability to interpret social phenomena accurately recognizing social problems, social issues or social risks and knows how to indicate their determinants (K_U01).
- The student is able to critically analyze the activities of social policy, including, for example, social programs in a specific scale and field (on the example of the problems undertaken in the diploma thesis), including, among others, to indicate interests and value systems and explain their relationship to specific solutions (K_U02).
- The student is able to create written studies of their research, including analysis and forecasts relating to knowledge in the field of social policy, resulting in a thesis (K_U06).
- The student is able to prepare a coherent study on a selected issue of social policy.
- The student is able to place a given issue of social policy in the realities of state and society functioning.
- The student is ready to critically evaluate his/her knowledge and external communications in the field of social policy, as well as to recognize the importance of scientific evidence for social policy as a practical activity, both through the preparation of the thesis and through participation in the diploma seminar (K_K01).
Assessment criteria
In order to pass the seminar and to be allowed to the undergraduate exam, it is necessary to prepare an independent work in accordance with the detailed guidelines. The work must pass a check in the Anti-Plagiarism System.
Another requirement is participation in seminars directed to the entire group (two absences possible per semester) or individual seminars to discuss the progress of the work. A condition for passing the first semester is that the theoretical (erudite) part of the thesis is accepted by the supervisor. A prerequisite for passing the second semester is the submission of a bachelor's thesis and its acceptance by the thesis supervisor after verification by the Anti-Plagiarism System.
