The following topics will be discussed during the course:
1. Interests and research methods of social psychology. The place of social psychology among other social sciences. Formulating hypotheses and theories. Observation, correlation method, experiment. Application of statistics.
2. Strategies for thinking about yourself and the social world. The role of cognitive schemas and heuristics. A self-fulfilling prophecy.
3. Social perception. The role of the need to understand other people. Implicit theories of personality. Attribution theory. Errors in social perception.
4. Cognitive dissonance theory. Lowballing technique. Justifying effort. The role of insufficient punishment. Consequences of immoral behavior and harming others. Mechanisms of self-justification.
5. "I" in social reality. Self-schemas. The role of self-esteem. Theory of self-awareness. Theory of self-perception. Two-factor theory of emotions. Social comparison theory. Self-presentation.
6. Interpersonal communication. The importance of non-verbal communication. Cultural differences in communication.
7. Assertive behavior. Consequences of aggressive, submissive and assertive behavior. Assertiveness diagnosis. Selected assertive techniques.
8. Attitudes and attitude changes. The impact of cognitive dissonance on attitude change. The role of persuasive messages. Central and peripheral persuasion strategies. Fear-inducing messages. Reactance theory. How to protect yourself from changing attitudes. Psychological mechanisms of consumer behavior. The influence of advertising.
9. Prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination. Causes of prejudice. How to reduce prejudice.
10. Conformism. Informational and normative social influence. Obedience to authority. Crowd psychology.
11. The influence of group processes on behavior. Facilitation and social loafing. Decision-making processes in the group. Properties of groupthink. Roles in the group.
12. Interpersonal conflicts and ways of solving them. Social dilemmas. Stages of negotiations based on cooperation.
13. Interpersonal attractiveness and the psychology of love. Factors influencing interpersonal attractiveness. Types of love. Pair selection in the context of evolutionary psychology. Attachment styles in emotional relationships.
14. Prosocial behavior. Are we selfish or altruistic? Factors influencing prosocial behavior.
15. Aggression and violence. Determinants of aggressive behavior. How to reduce aggression? Psychological aspects of domestic violence.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student knows and understands the following issues regarding human needs and their functioning in the social world (K_W04):
- areas of interest in social psychology and research methods,
- mechanisms of social perception and errors made in this process,
- theories and research explaining human social behavior, such as conformism, prosocial behavior, aggression and violence;
- factors influencing the formation and change of attitudes, causes of prejudices and ways of limiting them;
- theories of cognitive dissonance;
- the influence of the self-schema on social functioning and self-presentation techniques;
- factors influencing interpersonal attractiveness and psychological aspects of love.
- group processes, social dilemmas, causes and ways of dealing with conflict situations.
In terms of skills, the student is able to interpret social phenomena, accurately recognizing social problems, and is able to indicate their determinants thanks to knowledge of psychological theories and mechanisms (K_U01.), e.g.:
- is able to recognize aggressive, submissive and assertive behavior and determine their possible consequences,
- can point to examples in the social environment illustrating the impact of attitudes on behaviors and interpersonal relationships.
The student is able to plan and organize his own work, as well as build a task team and actively cooperate with other people within it, carrying out tasks in the field of social psychology (K_U09), such as planning a simple psychological experiment.
In terms of social competences, the student is ready to correctly identify and resolve dilemmas related to pursuing professions in the field of social politics (K_K04).
As part of social psychology, a student can determine their strengths and deficits in interpersonal skills, look at their own patterns, prejudices, and areas of defining one's self.
