Discussing Polish People's Republic (PRL) 2102-FA-DYPL
Problems:
- Totalitarianism - discussion about its character and its range in PRL. Essential features and intellectual sources of its different interpretations (as a whole system or as a period in history of "real socialism").
- Soviet Army in Poland 1944-93 (costs of its stay, development of left grounds); Personality cult ( origins and symptoms)
- Intellectual square up with PRL; present dispute about communism itself and about causes of such numerous participation. Sources of social acceptance - division lines, resistance phenomenon, gradual consent, acceptance.
- Compromise and its limits ( the issue of collaboration during occupation) Inside opposition.
- The balance of PRL - discussion about different trains. Only failures and lost biographies? The society and the system.
- Controversies about the most important events ( The Warsaw uprising, Poland and its allies, the 1956, the 1968?)
- Polish people and the others ( relations between Polish people and Ukrainians, sources of conflict, Wołyń issue , "Vistula" action, the reconciliation process); relations between Polish people and Germans - present controversies. Relations between Polish and Jewish people - anti - Semitic issue ( definitions, symptoms, extent), the Auschwitz lie.
- PRL's history in literature and in textbooks, international textbook commissions, History in the papers. The state of war - historians, politicians, soldiers, participants - discussions and assessments
- Experiences of the past and the present day. Mutual aim- different conceptions. Controversies about the origins of the III Polish Republic
The round table - what do we know, what makes its assessment difficult?
What about authorities and their role in modern world? History and politics. Examples of their interaction. Polish society in the past and during the transformation of political system.
