Violence in society 2102-BW-L-D6PZSP
The course lasts 30 hours and takes place in the summer semester. The aim of the course is to provide students with systematized knowledge in the field of sociology of violence, including two sources: texts and classical studies as well as own research. After completing the course the student will have basic knowledge related to the sociology of conflict and violence, will know and understand the basic concepts and theoretical concepts, the genesis of conflicts, dynamics and course of conflicts, have knowledge about the principles and means of preventing conflicts and violence, typology of violence, in particular violence as a form of influencing politics. The student will acquire elementary skills in the assessment of conflict situations and analysis of the course and possible endings of conflicts, in particular taking place with the use of various forms of violence.
The listeners are expected to have elementary knowledge about Polish society and knowledge of recent (Polish and universal) history at the high school level. In addition, the course participant should demonstrate: interest in the subject of conflicts and violence, readiness to actively participate in classes and the basic ability to work in a group.
The first part of the course acquaints students with the theoretical aspects of sociology of conflict and violence by introducing necessary concepts, concepts and theories as well as syntheses. In the second part of the course, students prepare their own research projects using the case study method. These projects are then presented and discussed during the course.

Assessment criteria
The final evaluation of the course is the result of: observation and evaluation of the intensity and quality of student activity during classes in the classroom, his presence, the results of the final test and evaluation outline written work.

* An additional condition for obtaining credit for the course is to simultaneously meet the following criteria:
a) attendance, which allows a maximum of 2 absences student
b) acceptance outline reviews by the teacher,
c) participation in the final test with a positive result.
