Individual behavior in extreme situations 2102-BW-L-D5ZJSE-ZK
The issues raised during the classes concern human behavior in an extreme situation, which radically differs from the daily routine and may involve extraordinary experiences. Most often, it is very dangerous in itself, additionally it imposes the necessity to make choices that may expose a person to the risk of loss of life or health. In such a situation, the existing behavior patterns and available mental resources may turn out to be insufficient, and the applied coping procedures may be ineffective. Students get acquainted with the basic psychological concepts describing human functioning in the above contexts and with the possible consequences of such events. Classes will be based on using the knowledge and experience of the teacher, as well as on the students' own work. All the issues discussed will be supported by exercises or tasks to be performed, which are to consolidate the acquired academic knowledge and enable students to familiarize themselves with the legal and social realities of people who have experienced extremely difficult situations.

Can assess the extent to which the injured person's condition requires immediate help or psychological intervention (K_U05)

Has the ability to observe and interpret extreme situations on a micro scale and the ability to see the evolution of these situations (K_K01)

Assessment criteria
The basic condition for obtaining credit is attendance (two unexcused absences per semester are allowed). Exceeding the number of permissible absences results in additional work, for example the necessity to complete the classes during the "on-call" duty or performing an additional task. Absence from more than half of the meetings leads to failure to complete the classes.
The final grade is the result of activity during the classes, completed works and presentations.
