Master's degree seminar 2102-ANG-M-D4MASE
The MA seminar, consisted of two semesters is aimed at preparing the MA thesis in English by students and is based on work with the supervisor as well as own work. The first semester is about: preliminary work - preparing the title and stricture (general and detailed) of a thesis, research design, methodological and theoretical part of the thesis as well as developing the practical knowledge about the use of sources and preparing the technical side of the thesis. The second semester is about preparing the subsequent chapters of the thesis. The prepared text is a subject of discussions with a supervisor. A student follows the suggestions and corrections of the supervisor, preparing the final version of the given chapter.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge learning outcomes: the graduate knows and understands:
- concepts and terminology used in political science (K_W01),
- and methods, tools, research techniques in political science and political science theories that explain the complexity of political processes (K_W02).
Skill learning outcomes: the graduate is able to:
- use the knowledge he possesses to understand political processes, formulate observed problems and find innovative solutions for them (K_U01),
- select scientific and non-scientific sources, critically analyze them, formulate conclusions based on them (K_U02),
- apply the learned methods, techniques, research tools (including advanced techniques and information and communication tools) to analyze selected research problems (K_U03),
- appropriately select and apply political science theories (K_U04),
- communicate with academic and other audiences using acquired knowledge and learned ways of applying it (K_U05),
- debate on topics related to political science with awareness of the importance of the content conveyed and the way it is conveyed (K_U06),
- independently decide on the development of his/her academic and professional path, as well as help third parties in this regard (K_U08),
- communicate orally and in writing in English on topics related to the subject of study with the use of specialized terminology at the C2 level of the ESOCJ, including the preparation of scientific, analytical and other texts in English (K_U09);
Social competence learning outcomes: the graduate is ready to:
- critically evaluate political processes, their causes, course and consequences (K_K01),
- recognize the importance of knowledge in solving political science problems concerning the state and society (K_K02),
- to be responsible in their professional activity and aware of its consequences and effects, in accordance with the highest standards of professional ethics (K_K04).
Assessment criteria
All details are pointed out by lecturer according to progress in creation of M.A. thesis.
M.A. thesis requirements. Research methods and techniques in political science. Techniques of writing a thesis. Finalization of the undergraduate thesis. All of this is evaluated systematically by the seminar instructor, who checks through conversation, ongoing evaluation, and verifies the progress of the student's study and work by revising and discussing the successively submitted chapters and parts of the M.A. thesis.
The thesis shall be prepared in accordance with the guidelines indicated in Resolution No. 4 of the UW University Council on Education, dated February 27, 2020, and the graduation rules set forth by the CIS Teaching Council 11/2025), dated May 7, 2025, on detailed rules for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the educational process for the Graduate Program in Political Science.
With regard to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of the thesis, the rules set forth in Resolution No. 98 of the University Council on Education of the UW dated December 8, 2023 on guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the educational process and in Resolution of the CISM Teaching Council No. 29/2025 (for ang 11/2025) dated May 7, 2025 on detailed rules for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the educational process shall apply. The student confirms the extent of use of AI tools by submitting a statement in accordance with the applicable model.
