Democracy Analysis and Measurement 2102-ANG-M-D3AME
The course is devoted to the question of how to analyse and measure democracy at different territorial levels in its static (quality of democracy) and dynamic aspects (democratisation, democratic backsliding). It covers both theoretical and methodological issues. In concrete terms, the course includes the following topics: Democracy and (de-)democratization as subject of analysis. Conceptualisation and operationalisation challenges. Qualitative and quantitative approaches to democracy analysis. Comparative studies. Measurement dilemmas. Data sets and their deficits. Democracy indexes. Students will learn about these issues reading the existing literature and carry out individual and group tasks.

Assessment criteria
Students will be assessed basing on the following criteria:
1. Regular activeness during the course - 30%.
2. Project consisting of two tasks - individual and group - concerning part I and II of the course - 70%.

AI can be used in the assessment for brainstorming, creating structures, and generating ideas for improving work.
