The aim of the subject is to analyze the phenomenon of social movement perceived as one of main instrument of social change in social and political life. Students are getting known with such questions as: theories of social movements (theory of collective behaviour, resource mobilization theory, theory of new social movements); a new social movement and an old social movement – description of the phenomenon, differences between the two types; description of chosen social movements.
This course is designed to acquaint students with problems of the contemporary world in relation to the phenomenon of social movements. It is important is understand mechanisms of social change and actors of these processes. Classes concern questions as: notions of social and political movements; major theoretocal perspectives on social movements; modern nationalism and examples of nationalist movements; workers movements (trade unions and revolutionary movements) a dialectic legacy of 1968 movements; black liberation momements ; women’s movements (notions of feminism and women’s liberation, history/herstory of women’s movements, trends an divisions in women’s and feminist movements); LGBT+ movements; ecological movements; anti-war and pacifist movements.
The aim is to show comparisons between these activities as the phenomenon of modern political life and to present social movement as a very important and desired instrument of social change.
