Introduction to Political Research 2102-ANG-L-D1ITPR
The aim of this course is to introduce the main terms of political science research methodology and equip students with basic knowledge and skills in research methods. This course is directly linked and builds ground that will be developed during the subsequent methodological course planned in the curriculum.
The course will consist of the following classes:
1. Kick-off Meeting
2. Political research in context
3. Visualizing Research
4. Foundations of empirical research
5. Asking good questions
6. What happened and why?
7. Choosing research design
8. The logic of qualitative methods
9. The logic of quantitative methods
10. Case study research
11. The comparative method

Assessment criteria
Written examination is the main method of evaluation. Additionally, in order to be qualified for the examination, students must complete all homework and meet attendance requirements specified by the instructor.
Students must adhere to Resolution No. 11/2025 of the Teaching and Learning Council for the following fields of studies: European politics and economics, Graduate programme in international relations, Graduate programme in political science, Social and public policy, Undergraduate programme in international relations, Undergraduate programme in political science of 7 March 2025 on detailed rules and regulations for using artificial intelligence tools in the teaching and learning proces. IMPORTANT: students are not permitted to use GenAI in any form during this class (AIAS level1).
