Why Are Young Voters Increasingly Supporting the Far Right? A Comparative Analysis of Poland and Germany from a Student Perspective 2100-MON-YOUNG
Since at least 2019, we have observed a Europe-wide rise in the popularity of far-right parties. It has become increasingly clear that much of this support comes from young people. In light of the results of the presidential election in Poland, the parliamentary elections in Germany, and trends in other countries, this topic is exceptionally timely - and it is young people – students - who can provide a scholarly analysis of this phenomenon.
This development has inspired a series of joint seminars for students of WNPiSM and the European University Viadrina (UEV) in Frankfurt (Oder), combined with reciprocal visits by students of both universities to the neighbouring country. The course is delivered in a blended-learning format. Its core consists of two weekend workshops: the first in Warsaw on 17–19 October, and the second in Frankfurt (Oder) and Berlin on 5 -7 December. The workshops emphasise modern, interactive teaching methods designed to foster collaboration between participants from both universities. The programme also includes cultural components and free time for participants to organise independently.
Attendance at both workshops is compulsory. In between, there will be five joint 90-minute online sessions. Full participation in the course yields 6 ECTS credits. The detailed programme will be provided to admitted participants.
Thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation (FWPN), awarded to the course coordinator, Prof. Gagatek, participation of our students in the trip to Germany is free of charge. Up to 10 students from each university will be able to take part.
