The course aims to familiarize Students with the structure of sciences, with the area of social sciences, with the disciplines relevant to the field of study, i.e. security sciences and related: political science and administration and international relations.
Within the framework of the theoretical part, the Student will learn the essence of scientific activity and what is its result - an academic text. This will allow you to identify the types of publications, their workshop elements (components of research methodology, narrative culture and the specifics of academic language). In particular, the course will focus on the function, elements and standards of academic and publishing activities, to ultimately lead Students to learn the principles and standards and good practices of developing different types of academic texts.
An important element of the course is the ethical, legal and technological requirements of scientific and publishing activities, as well as the use of diverse sources and forms of knowledge and the results of scientific research for research and educational purposes.
The practical component of the course will consist of preparing an essay in the standard of an academic text, i.e., taking into account environmental and legal rules/standards (e.g., citation).

W_01. The student knows and understands the essence of scientific and publishing activity in the area of social sciences with due ethical and legal standards of protection of intellectual property (W_09).
W_02. The student knows the benefits and limitations and understands the responsibility of using diverse sources and technologies in scientific and publishing activities (W_09).
U_01. The student, through a scientific text, communicates in a substantive and efficient manner in the scientific community and with the public (U_06).
K_01. The student is able to critically and competently work with information and scientific knowledge and use it through publishing activities to evaluate and change social reality (K_01; K_05).
Assessment criteria
The course credit is based on the writing of an essay, which will use scientific methodology and diverse tools on data/information acquisition, collection and processing.
Practical placement
The course does not include apprenticeships.
