Interdisciplinary urban polemics III 1900-SM-4-1
The classes consist of meetings with authors of innovative research and publications on cities, municipal officials representing local governments from across Poland, urban activists, and other individuals who shape the frameworks for understanding and/or practicing the functioning of smaller and larger urban organisms. Students have the opportunity not only to learn about the issues that invited guests specialize in, but also to speak up and engage in discussion with the perspectives presented.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
- selected facts, objects and phenomena related to urban studies, as well as the methods and theories that explain the complex relations between them, at an advanced level - constituting in-depth general knowledge within the scientific disciplines that form the theoretical foundations of urban studies, as well as structured, theoretically grounded knowledge covering selected issues within advanced, specialized knowledge characteristic of urban studies;
- the role of social ties in cooperation with the social environment.
Skills: the graduate is able to
- formulate and solve complex and atypical problems and perform tasks in the field of urban studies in innovative ways under unpredictable conditions by appropriately selecting sources and information derived from them, and by evaluating, critically analyzing, synthesizing, creatively interpreting and presenting this information; communicate on specialist topics related to urban studies with diverse groups of recipients; conduct debates on urban development; collaborate with others as part of team projects and take a leading role within teams; independently shape their learning process and continuously expand their qualifications.
Social competences: the graduate is ready to
- critically evaluate their own knowledge and the information received within the field of urban studies;
- recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and to seek expert opinions when difficulties arise in solving a problem independently.
Assessment criteria
Assessment: graded pass — continuous assessment based on participation in discussion.

It depends on the list of guests, announced in advance but updated throughout the academic year.
