The course consists of three complementary parts: lecture, seminar and workshop.
Revitalisation, redevelopment and gentrification: lecture
Half of this part consists of lectures carried out in a stationary or remote form, and half of urban walks in the area of Warsaw.

Revitalisation, redevelopment and gentrification: seminar
This part is based on the analysis and discussion on selected materials. During the classes, the assumptions, perspectives and implementation of revitalisation programs and gentrification processes will be discussed.
1. Definitions of revitalisation and gentrification (law, documents, key concepts, areas of revitalisation, process stakeholders).
2. Urban policies (selected revitalisation programs and their guidelines, revitalisation versus other urban processes, duration, process, effects of revitalisation).
3. Discourses around revitalisation and gentrification (various understandings and uses of the concepts of modernization, revitalisation, gentrification, actors of urban processes, fetishization of revitalisation, media discourses).
4. Case studies (guidelines, implementation, reception and discussions, new and old functions of space, duration, processuality, effects of revitalisation, revitalisation, modernization and participation).

Revitalisation, redevelopment and gentrification: workshop
During the workshop, participants analyze the revitalisation program on the basis of various sources, including the Local and Municipal Revitalisation Programs, local law and strategic documents, press materials and interviews with stakeholders.
1. Diagnosis and delimitation of a degraded area, designation of a revitalisation area
2. Revitalisation targets and indicators of their achievement
3. Identification of stakeholders and communication in the revitalisation process
4. Urban development interventions - changes to the spatial arrangement in the area of revitalisation
5. Renovations of residential premises in the revitalisation area: the right to replacement housing, resettlement, housing programs
6. Renovations of commercial premises: target functions
7. The role of local organisations: participation and social consultations, education, local activities.

Assessment criteria
The final grade for the subject is issued on the basis of equivalent partial grades from all parts (lecture, seminar and workshop). It is obligatory to pass each of these parts and the final grade will be an arithmetic mean of the partial grades. Activity of participants may raise the final grade.
Partial mark - lecture: Oral examination with grade (80%), additionally high attendance and active participation (20%).
Partial mark - seminar: active participation in classes (60%), oral presentation (40%).
Partial mark - workshop: high attendance and active participation (30%), oral presentation prepared for the group (70%)
