Evolution of Space 1900-SM-3-4MP-1
The classes will be dedicated to the topic of shaping changes in urban layouts in a historical perspective. The starting point for the considerations will be a discussion of public space in Warsaw from the modern era to the present day. Selected places within the city will be shown against the background of international architectural and urban experiences. The following topics will be presented during the meetings.

The instructor will draw attention to urban processes that have taken place over the centuries in the capital of Poland, including: the emergence and disappearance of former jurydyka markets, the formation of Stanisławowska Axis, squares, Warsaw squares from the interwar period, former city axes, former cemeteries, etc.). Much emphasis will be placed on showing the role of small architecture in shaping public space (fountains, monuments, commemorative plaques). However, the most important task of the lecture series will be to link the heritage of urban layouts with contemporary urban transformations.

4. Can indicate the elements and significance of small architecture in public space,
5. Can identify the basic turning points in the history of world urban planning,
COMPETENCIES
Students
1. are ready to prepare a scientific or popular science text and present a topic related to urban planning and the evolution of space in the form of a presentation.
Assessment criteria
The final exam in the form of a closed test (24-30 questions) on the issues discussed during classes.
