Demographic structures 1900-1-SSD-SE
The class addresses key demographic issues.
During the classes, theoretical and practical issues of population change, natural movement, gender and age structure will be discussed. The aging process, its causes and consequences will be discussed. Moreover, types of migration, their causes and consequences will be discussed during the classes, along with the discussion of migration movements that characterize Poland and Polish society, as well as selected countries.
Students will be introduced to methods of obtaining demographic data.
During the course, students also learn how to properly interpret data, as well as how to present and analyze it.
Work:
Exercises = 2 ECTS (collecting statistical data, graphic elaboration of data, preparing presentations, oral presentation of results, participation in discussion)

Assessment criteria
Exercises
The paper involves the collection, compilation and presentation of selected demographic data. You will be assessed on the preparation of the database and the presentation of the results. The presentation is made in front of the rest of the class. Presentation scores include factual, linguistic, and technical correctness.
The presentations are concluded by a joint discussion.
Depending on the size of the group, it is possible to work in small teams - the decision about such division of labour is taken during the first classes.
Attendance at exercises is mandatory and one absence is allowed.
Lecture
The lecture series concludes with a written exam including open and closed technical questions. The basis to get the credit for the course is obtaining positive mark for the exercise cycle and positive mark for the exam.
A positive grade in the exercises and exam means obtaining more than 50% of the points.
