(in Polish) Research Ethics 1800-SZD-NP-ET-W-EN
The lecture is obligatory to all students of the Interdisciplinary
Doctoral School at the University of Warsaw. Its primary goal is
to acquaint the students with ethical standards of good research
practice (i.e., ethics of the planning, conduct, reporting, and
reviewing of research), and to raise their awareness of ethical
aspects and problems associated with research activities.
The lecture covers following topics: science and values
(epistemic, pragmatic, moral); ethos, social role and
responsibility of researchers; research integrity & good research
practice, including ethics of data acquisition and management,
authorship and publication ethics, peer review ethics, principles
of open science, respect for intellectual property right, and
conflicts of interest in research.

Learning outcomes
THE GRADUATE KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS
WG_02 - the main scientific developments in the academic or
artistic disciplines essential to the study programme;
THE GRADUATE IS READY TO
KO_01 - to fulfil the social obligations of researchers and artists;
KO_02 - initiate activities on behalf of the public interest; in
particular in initiating actions in the public interest;
KR_01 - to uphold and develop the ethos of the research and
artistic communities, including:
conducting research in an independent manner
respecting the principle of public ownership of scientific
results, respecting the principle of the public ownership of
academic research results.

Assessment criteria
Final test. The test covers topic discussed during the lecture and
in the obligatory readings. Only students who (a) attended the
lecture and (b) passed two workshops on research ethics, are
entitled to take the final test. In exceptional situations, the
lecturer may allow a student, who was absent from the lecture
(or part of it), to take the final test, provided the student had
satisfactorily completed an additional task assigned by the
lecturer (e.g. discussion on the additional readings; additional
essay on research ethics)
Final “grade”: pass/fail; the passing threshold - 70%
