Contemporary urban research in geogra-phy and spatial management 1600-SZD-SPEC-WB-GSE
In recent years, the number of terms and definitions used in science to characterize cities and the directions of their changes has increased significantly. Also in spatial research (geography and spatial management) we encounter a multitude of concepts and approaches to processes and structures that can be observed in cities. Understanding and interpreting these concepts is the main topic of the classes. They mainly concern the latest ways of defining changes in the urban environment, taking into account the spatial context (according to the regional specificity in which these changes occur) and the specificity of the approach (a comprehensive view or one oriented to specific phenomena). Hence, the issues discussed during the classes, in connection with the topics of the doctoral dissertations of the participants of the classes, touch on the issues of approaching the changes in the structure and functions of the post-socialist city, the specificity of the compact city, the city of commemorations or the resilient city. The subject of the discussion is each time the way of approaching the concept of the city, its specific features, possible research techniques, to the degree of compliance of the concept with examples of real cities

Assessment criteria
Description of requirements related to participation in classes, including the permitted number of explained absences: Active participation in discussions during at least 4 classes.
Principles for passing the classes and the subject (including resit session): Preparation and presentation for group discussion of an analysis of one of the texts relating to contemporary concepts of urban research in terms of geography and spatial management. In the case of a repeat credit, the above requirements apply only to the lecturer.
Methods for the verification of learning outcomes: Seminar discussion
Evaluation criteria: The evaluation includes the manner of argumentation, the ability to critically evaluate the presented content and the ability to place the discussed issues in the whole spectrum of problems of previous geographical research on the city.
Practical placement
