Discipline seminar - International Relations (I year) 1600-SZD-SEM-SM
The aim of the course is to familiarize PhD students with the theoretical and methodological challenges in the context of research conceptualization and research projects, as well as to provide methodological and conceptual preparation for publication. The course will consist of the following topics:
a) An overview of the main methodological challenges in scientific publishing – issues of research conceptualization; the importance of research contextualization;
b) PhD student research strategy – publishing scientific articles – conceptualizing a scientific article in the discipline of international relations; how to prepare an article for a journal indexed in Scopus or Web of Sciences; how to choose the appropriate, appropriate scientific journal for publication;
c) how to prepare an introduction for a scientific article; how to design the structure of a scientific article;
d) methodological and theoretical challenges in preparing the publication of scientific articles – presented by invited researchers from the world's top universities; a discussion of the most common mistakes made by young researchers.

WG_1 – world achievements, covering theoretical foundations as well as general issues and selected specific issues of a given scientific or artistic discipline, to a degree allowing revision of existing paradigms

Skills: Can:
UW_1 - use knowledge of various scientific or artistic disciplines to creatively identify, formulate and innovatively solve complex problems or perform research tasks, and specifically: define the purpose and subject of research and formulate a research hypothesis, develop and creatively use research methods, techniques and tools, draw conclusions from research results
UW_2 – make a critical analysis and evaluation of the results of scientific research, expert activity and other creative works and their contribution to the development of knowledge
UK_1 - communicate on specialist topics to a degree enabling active participation in the international research community

Assessment criteria
Description of requirements related to participation in classes, including the permitted number of explained absences: Presence in all class is mandatory, mission 1 class is allowed in special circumstances
Principles for passing the classes and the subject (including resit session):
- Participation in classes
- Presentation of a proposed scientific article
- Review of the proposed scientific article presented by the second PhD student during the class
- Presentation of the Introduction and structure of the article
Methods for the verification of learning outcomes:
- Assessment of activity during classes
- Knowledge of the presented literature
- Application of theory and methods from classes during presentations
Evaluation criteria:
- Assessing the scientific nature of the article proposal
- Assessing the response to the second student's review of the proposal
- Assessing the scientific nature of the Introduction and the structure of the article
