Do organizations always need to be managed? Is knowledge of management needed in contemporary algorithmically steered world? For what purpose can it be useful for a citizen who is not a manager and does not aspire to managerial positions? This course will address these and related issues. Given that the modern world is a world of organizations and that they are ubiquitous, it is easy to conceive of them both a tool of enslavement and liberation. Indeed, organizations can be viewed in many different ways and have many different aspects. Depending on what we focus on, we may be able to see this and perhaps also influence some aspects of the organization at the expense of others. Management is a practical and direct way of approaching them and taking responsibility for them. The aim of the course is to learn about contemporary ways of understanding organizations, as well as to show how they can be strategically managed and understood creatively.
