Visual methodologies in media research. 1600-SZD-ID-MWBM
Subject framework: 1. Interdisciplinarity of visual communication research. 2. To reflect, to suggest, to document - the functions of images in media research, i.e. image as research material, persuasion, a set of proofs.3. Media science paradigms and visual methods. Medium specification and visual selection of research methods (static media, dynamic, interactive).4. Application of visual semiotics and visual rhetoric in the PhD thesis.5. Assessment. In relation to the doctoral thesis project, the PHD student selects a medium for analysis and then identifies image functions (images do not always have to be research material). The subject’s mark is granted based on the written document with the research process framework, preliminary analysis of the results within and suggested application.

Assessment criteria
Description of requirements related to participation in classes, including the
permitted number of explained absences: 1 absence accepted
Principles for passing the classes and the subject (including resit session): same as first term session
Methods for the verification of learning outcomes: presence, pariticaption id discussions, written paper on visual methods used in relation to the PhD thesis
Evaluation criteria: 50% presence during class and participatory discussion, written project of the research up to 5 pages
