Decolonial and participatory approaches to research in diversity 1600-SZD-ID-DPP
The seminar explores decolonial and participatory approaches and methodologies in research with diverse groups in diverse social contexts. The premise is that in order to engage in meaningful research, diverse especially 'vulnerable' groups must participate. Emphasis will be placed on humanizing research methodologies, indigenous methodologies, participatory, decolonial approaches, agency, participation, and social justice in the context of inclusive and non-discriminatory research. The positionality of the researcher, the participation of minorities, and vulnerable groups, and the importance of participation and related research dilemmas in diverse contexts will be discussed. Participation is a widely used term that needs to be deconstructed and defined in methodological, discursive, and contextual dimensions. Different research methodologies consider participation in different ways. The seminar will discuss these different possibilities through a review of research methods, approaches, and tools to apply the theoretical discussion to the empirical field. Emphasis will also be placed on research ethics in sensitive contexts in decolonial and participatory approaches.
