Practical Aspects of Research and Academic Teaching in the Field of Literary Studies 1500-SZD-PAPBIDWOL
PhD students conducting research in the field of literary studies will become familiar with various methods of scientific and teaching work. The classes are intended to facilitate the functioning of PhD students in the academic environment. The course will cover selected didactic issues in the field of literary studies, preparation of conference presentations, and work on scientific articles (including cooperation with journal editors).
Problems to be discussed:
1. ‘What do I need to know to conduct classes?’ The specifics of my own research field and the scope of the teaching responsibilities.
2. ‘Talking about literature or researching literature?’ Research methodology and teaching methods.
3. ‘How to talk about literature to be understood?’ Understanding among researchers and in teaching sessions.
4. Specialization and erudition. Critical reading of literary texts from various problem areas.
5. ‘How much can an article hold? What can be said in twenty minutes? What to discuss for ninety minutes?’ Preparing conference presentations, articles, and teaching exercises.
6. Reviewing. ‘How to review coursework and thesis papers? How to use critical reviews of one's own texts?’
7. Popular forms of discussing literary topics.
