Methodology of glottodidactic research 1500-SZD-MBG
The curriculum includes a critical overview of selected theoretical issues and results of scientific research in the field of glottodidactics, with particular emphasis on research tools and methods used in glottodidactic research. A critical review of these research tools and methods is conducted in close connection with individual Doctoral projects of the student’s. Because the glottodidactic knowledge is largely based on linguistic knowledge, particular attention is paid to showing interconnections between linguistics and glottodidactics as independent fields of science whose basic subject of research is a learner of (foreign)language(s).
Selected topics: subject of glottodidactic research; linguistic research in glottodidactics, theories of language and glottodidactics; "Critical thinking" as the most important tool of glottodidactics; qualitative methods of glottodidactic research, e.g. observation versus participant observation, questionnaire, questionnaire, (glotto)didactic experiment, case study, (glottodidactic) text analysis; quantitative methods of glottodidactic research, e.g. statistical research in glottodidactics (co-leader M. Patera), neurolinguistic research and glottodidactics (computer imaging / fMRI, co-leader A. Antoniuk, Ph.D. A. Pluta), Eyetracking research in glottodidactics (co-leader Ph.D. A. Andrychowicz-Trojanowska); possibilities and limitations in the use of glottodidactic tools from the point of view of individual doctoral projects.
Type of course
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
Knowledge:
P8S_WG.1 – knows and understands (to a degree that allows a revision of existing paradigms) global achievements, including: • theoretical foundations • general issues and selected issues specific to a scientific or artistic discipline;
P8S_WG.2 – knows and understands the main development trends of a scientific or artistic discipline which the course applies to;
P8S_WG.3 – knows and understands the methodology of scientific research.
Skills:
P8S_UW.1 – can use knowledge from various fields of science or art to creatively identify, formulate and solve complex problems or perform research tasks; in particular is able to:
define the purpose and subject of scientific research,
formulate a research hypothesis,
develop research methods, techniques and tools and apply them creatively,
draw conclusions on the basis of scientific research results;
P8S_UK.4 – is able to participate in scientific discourse.
Social competence:
P8S_KK.3 – is ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems;
P8S_KR.1 – is ready to maintain and develop the ethos of research and creative environments, including:
conducting research in an independent manner,
respecting the principle of public ownership of scientific research results, including the principles of intellectual property protection.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria:
- the student's presence in classes and his/her activity are taken into account.
