Medieval and Early Modern Seminar (5th - early 17th century) 1500-SDN-SWDH-SMN
The planned seminar continues the tradition of interdisciplinary academic meetings that have been held for many years in the Institute of History, and the, in the Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw. It is to be a direct continuation of a seminar that was conducted by Professors Agnieszka Bartoszewicz, Grzegorz Myśliwski and Dariusz Kołodziejczyk. The chronological scope of the planned seminar will vary from the 5th century to the beginning of the 17th century. The thematic area will include topics related to social, cultural, legal, political and economic history with use of comparative data. The aim of the seminar is to present and discuss the results of new research, as well as to introduce scientific projects, both individual (doctoral dissertations, habilitation theses, monographs) and collective ones (grant programmes).
The seminar involves listening to lectures by doctoral students participating in the course, and invited guests, and will be followed by a discussion on the lecture's subject matter between the referent and other attendees. Inspired by the renowned doctoral seminar formerly conducted by Professors Henryk Samsonowicz, Antoni Mączak, Andrzej Wyrobisz, and Michał Tymowski, we also plan to invite occasionally historians who study periods later than the early 17th century, as well as specialists from other humanities disciplines (such as archaeologists, literary scholars, etc.). This approach aligns with the core idea of our seminar: the unity of science and the worthwhile exploration of its diversity.
Thanks to the online format, lecturers and attendees also from other Polish universities and abroad will be able to attend these seminars. This will enrich our seminars and provide participants with direct contact with researchers who may be known only from their works.
