Dendrology 1400-225DEDRO
The course covers systematics, dispersal and use of trees, shrubs and dwarf shrubs of native species and the most common in our country alien species, especially those manifesting invasive tendencies. The course includes 90 hours of laboratory classes preceded by a brief introductory lecture. The introduction is designed to provide theoretical knowledge useful in plant determination. Lab classes are devoted to the practical determination of the trees, bushes and dwarf shrubs by students using a key, and the characteristics provided by the teacher. The purpose of training is to provide comprehensive knowledge of the selected species of trees, bushes and dwarf shrubs, both systematical and ecological, as well as purely practical, and especially to learn how to identify them in different phenological stages and phases of the life cycle. The classes will be held in the Botanical Garden (in laboratories as well as in the botanical park). Purpose of this course is to learn to identify trees and shrubs of major species of domestic and alien (including "difficult" genera) and among not-native, particularly species getting feral and invasive. Individual determination of species will be preceded by an introduction to the issues of nomenclature and descriptive morphology. Additional information contain information from the field of physiography, ethnobotany and history of material culture.

SOCIAL COMPETENCE (K_K02) necessity of continuous actualization and extend dendrological knowledge; (K_K06) can properly determine priority in resolving of problems of invasive woody plants; (K_K07) understand necessity to use the rule of sustainable development, and elimination of alien woody plants; (K_K10) can work in group
Assessment criteria
Evaluation of knowledge on plant species covered by the course (identification of herbarium specimens and fresh shoots) and evaluation of theoretical knowledge about the characteristics of species of trees, bushes and dwarf shrubs covered by course.
