1. Scope of limnology - textbooks, research centers, scientific organizations and research programs.
2. Water environment - physical and chemical properties, dynamics of water masses, role of vertical gradients, stratification, review of water environments (oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers etc.), lakes typology.
3. Organisms in waters - taxonomy, adaptations to different water environments, communities of water organisms, trophic and non-trophic relationships in water communities, herbivores, predators and detritivores, distribution of water organisms, seasonality, migrations.
4. Production and destruction, nutrient cycling - primary productivity limiting factors: temperature, light, nutrients, biogeochemical cycles.
5. Eutrophication and water pollution - causes, consequences, symptoms, role of nitrogen and phosphorus,
