Conservation botany 1400-112BOTK
The classes are dedicated to future employees of administrative bodies, non-governmental organizations, and other institutions working for nature and environmental protection in Poland.
Similar to the “compatible” classes in “Conservation Zoology,” they are designed to provide graduates with knowledge about endangered species that are protected for various reasons. Plants from lists attached to the most important legal acts (in Poland, Europe, and worldwide) and listed in the Red Book, on the red list, etc. are presented.
One of the goals of the classes is to familiarize students with methods of identifying rare species and to teach them how to recognize selected plants in the field and in the laboratory. The resources of the University of Warsaw Botanical Garden, the Polish Academy of Sciences Botanical Garden in Powsin, and the Herbarium of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw will be used for this purpose.
Students will gain knowledge about the biology, ecology, and chorology of rare plant species. They will learn about methods of protecting them and how to assess their effectiveness.
